Documentaries Go Mobile with CINELAN/Babelgum Deal

Digital Rights Management: How We Got to Where We Are

This decision (which is in addition to the formal agreements they have with high volume providers) is an interesting move for a company under attack for not generating enough revenue to offer to share their revenues with more people–and more independent content creators at that. Will YouTube want exclusivity for the rights to million-hit clips that could end up generating revenue from other platforms? This high-profile story is just the latest in a series related to managing the rights of digital assets in a multi-platform, digital environment.

Pirates are just part of the youth zeitgeist, and it’s something that creator Steve Sievers tapped into with his Supa Pirate Booty Hunt. “Rock ‘n Roll on the High Seas” is the tagline for Supa Pirate Booty Hunt, which reflects what Sievers thinks is the allure of pirates for the under 35 demo. “They were the rock stars of their time,” he said. And who doesn’t want to be a rock star? Sievers’ pirate is close to a super hero, but with a twist. “Booty is his weakness - treasure and girls,” he said.
