Mobile Excellence Awards 2009: The Winners Are…

The second annual Mobile Excellence Awards was held at the Sofitel Hotel in West Hollywood.The MEAs were established to recognize the best in mobile entertainment industry including media, marketing and technology. According to MEA founder/chair Sarah Miller, this year’s Mobile Excellence Awards doubled both its attendance and award submissions this year and saw submission entries from over 12 different countries. International delegates represented Ireland, Israel, Turkey, London and Russia. There was also a VIP Viewing Suite for VIPs and presenters, hosted by AEG Network LIVE which previewed the upcoming Dave Matthews Band in HD3D.

Economics of Mobile: Who’s Making Money Now

“Mobile programming is clearly a nascent industry,” said SNL Kagen analyst John Fletcher, who recently published a report on The Economics of Mobile Programming. Prior to doing the study, he had a number in mind regarding total revenue. “I took out texting, ringtones, wallpaper, email, gaming and music and I thought, whatever is left over is about $300 million in 2008,” he said. But, given how young and unformed mobile programming is, he also doubted that this industry could be worth that much. “After all the due diligence, lo and behold, I came back to that $300 million figure,” he said.
